A Texas rapist is in a bit more trouble than he imagined after law enforcement learned that he had been raping two young girls, ages 9 and 10. Unfortunately for him, things would only get worse during his trial as a judge wiped the smug grin off his face with just three brutal words that he’ll never forget.
Robert Benjamin Franks, 48, of San Marcos thought he had it all figured out. For years, he had been victimizing two young girls and figured that since he hadn’t been caught that he was in the clear – but he thought wrong.
According to the San Antonio Express-News, all hell broke loose when his 9-year-old victim finally had enough and told her father what had happened. In all, she explained that Franks had been doing “disgusting things” to her and another 10-year-old girl for years.
As one would imagine, the father immediately called the police and got them involved, and an official investigation was launched into the matter. Although the 10-year-old girl initially denied being raped for years, she eventually admitted what Franks had been doing to her.
Just like that, the sexual predator was picked up and arrested on two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child, nine counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, and six counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact. However, if he thought things were bad, they were about to get a lot worse during his trial that spanned just a week.
After being found guilty by a Hays County jury, the judge presiding over the case, Judge Jack Robison, was about to make things exponentially worse for the man. Even better yet, it took him just 3 words to do it – “one thousand years.”
That’s right, Franks was sentenced to over 1000 years in prison, but it gets even better. Not only did the judge make sure that he will never get out by adding on additional time, he hit him with a fine as well.
A Hays County jury sentenced him to life for each of two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child, 99 years for each of nine counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and 20 years for each of six counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact.
In addition to the two life sentences plus 1,011 years in prison, Franks was ordered to pay a fine of $93,000. [Source: Dallas News]
Of course, the local community is more than happy with the verdict seeing how a deranged criminal and child predator has been locked away for good, and many are hoping that it serves as a deterrent for any other twisted perverts like Frank out there.
“Words cannot really express the depth of the betrayal and outrage warranted by conduct like this, committed by a man who should have been caring for and protecting these children,” Hays County District Attorney Wes Mau said. “The jury’s sentence speaks more eloquently than I can to make clear how our community feels about crimes like these.”
In the end, this guy didn’t exactly get what he deserved, but it’s a good start after what he did to those little girls. When a man is sentenced to this much jail time, I don’t know why the death penalty isn’t on the table. After all, when you lock someone away for 1,000 years, you’re essentially saying that he’s unfit to live in society – so why do we, the taxpayers, bear the burden of keeping this vile scumbag alive?
Although death would be a step in the right direction in getting these girls the justice they are due, it still wouldn’t be enough. Fortunately, there are worse things than death, and you can bet your butt if ever there was someone doomed to spend an eternity in hell, Franks would be it. Justice may be delayed, but in the end, he’ll get his — either in this life or the next.
